Cloth Diapers - Give our Child a Blue Sky
What is Diaper?
A diaper (in North America) or nappy (in the United Kingdom or Commonwealth countries) is an absorbent garment worn primarily by whom are not yet potty trained or suffer from bedwetting.
The Purpose of Cloth Diaper
The purpose of a diaper is to absorb moisture and contain mess so that the wearer can remain dry and comfortable after wetting or soiling themselves. When diapers become full and can no longer hold any more waste, they require changing.
Material of Diaper
Diapers can be made of either cloth or disposable materials. Whereas cloth diapers are comprised of layers of fabric such as terry towelling and can be washed and reused multiple times, disposable diapers contain absorbent chemicals and can be thrown away after use. The decision to use cloth or disposable diapers is a controversial one, due to issues ranging from convenience, health, cost, and their effect on the environment.

Why and Benefits of Using Cloth Diapers?
- More Economic-- Yes, cloth diapers are cheaper than disposable. Any way you do the math, cloth wins. Just need to purchase average about 6 sets and you can use for 2 - 3 years and can pass down to your next baby. Which is more worth? Which is more value for money? We have done some calculation base on assuming usage for 2 years. Easily You Save = RM 3,194 for 2 years. Question: How much more other things you can buy for your beloved children with RM 3,194? For calculation details, please visit http://www.kasihkusayangku.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=9
- Environmental Friendly. Cloth Diapers are more environmentally friendly! Cloth diapers can be wash, reuse and recycle. With cloth diapers you are not throwing thousands of pounds of non-biodegradable waste into the landfills each year.Cloth diapers should be the Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle product of choice! It only takes 3 dozen good quality cloth diapers to diaper at least 2 children for a grand total of 4-6 years, then you can use the worn diapers as rags for another 5 years, then you can throw the scraps in the compost bin, where the natural fibers will biodegrade.
- Health Issue. Disposable diapers contain Carcinogenic Dioxin, which in various forms has been shown to cause cancer, birth defects, liver damage, and skin diseases, genetic damage, is a by-product of the paper-bleaching process used in manufacturing disposable diapers, and trace quantities may exist in the diapers themselves. Disposable diapers contain gel-like beads Sodium polyacrylate, make diapers super absorbent. It ‘pulls’ natural moisture from baby’s skin, encouraging irritation. It can cause severe allergic reactions including vomiting, infections and fever. Disposable diapers also contain TRIBUTYL TIN – Highly toxic pollutant. It has hormone-like effect in smallest concentration. It harms the immune system and impairs the hormonal system.
- Earlier toilet training. This may not hold true in every case, but there's no denying that cloth diapers are a lot more "realistic" than disposables. A wet cloth diaper feels wet to a child, whereas a disposable diaper continues to feel dry.
- Less diaper rashes. No doubt, it may depends on the child, but that cloth seems to maintain a better moisture environment for my daughter's skin than disposables. You can also feel more easily when your child is wet and change her as often as necessary. And there's no increased cost if you need to change your child more often with cloth diapers, whereas with disposables it can really add up if you are changing your babe more frequently due to rash or diarrhea. One study from the Journal of Pediatrics indicates that 54% of one month olds in disposable diapers had some type of rash, 16% were severe. Rash medication can be expensive. A tube of one of the leading makers of rash medicine costs approximately $6. This is just a small expense, but multiply that expense over three years and it quickly starts to add up.
- No midnight runs to the store because you are out of diapers, no scanning newspaper ads, hoping for a great sale, and no clipping coupons. Just do a couple loads of laundry a week and you're set!
- Save Time. Still recall the day you fold the traditional nappy until you want to cry. With cloth diaper, it is so easy to put it on our beloved child and spend the precious time with them.

Breastfeeding - Fights Diseases
Breast milk contains immunities to diseases and aids in the development of baby's immune system
Formula provides neither of these benefits. According to a study reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, fully bottle-fed infants were hospitalized with infectious diseases 10 times more often and spent 10 times more days in hospital during the first year of life than fully breastfed infants.
Breastfeeding protects against intestinal disorder
In a Manchester study, out of 170 babies under 6 months old admitted to a hospital with gastro-enteritis, only one baby was being breastfed.
Breast milk lowers risk of developing asthma
According to study published in Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine in July 1995, breastfed babies have a lower risk for developing recurrent wheezing when they are older (age 6 or more).
Breastfeeding protects baby against diarrhoeal infections
Diarrhoea is a major killer of infants and toddlers, and the main cause of diarrhoea is a bottle-feeding. Breastfeeding is the best way to prevent diarrhoea. Studies have shown that babies who are breastfed exclusively have a lower incidence of diarrhoea.
Breastfeeding protects baby against bacterial meningitis.
Breastfeeding protects baby against respiratory infections
in one study of babies treated with respiratory infections in a Newcastle hospital, it was found that only 1 in 14 was being breastfed, compared with 1 in 4 among healthy babies outside the hospital.
Breastfeeding decease chances of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
Preliminary data from the University of North Caroline/Duke University researches indicates breastfed children were only 40% as likely to develop juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Breastfeeding - Better Development

Breastfed Babies Walk Earlier
Two studies have shown that breastfed babies walk earlier than bottle-fed babies even after allowing for differences in weight between the 2 groups and excluding babies whose mothers went out to work (because they might possibly have been less stimulated to walk).
Better Speech Development
Tongue thrust problems often develop among bottle-fed babies as they try to slow down the flow of milk coming from the artificial nipple. This can lead to speech problem. as well as mouth-breathing, lip-biting, gum disease and a generally unattractive appearance.
Better Social Skills
A study in Hungary found that breastfeeding in the first 3 months of life greatly improves a child;s social maturity (as well as psychomotor, ie physical movement, skills). This is encouraged by human contact during feeding (a nursing mother must cuddle her infant closely many times during the day). At birth, infant see only 12-15 inches, the distance between a nursing baby and its mother's face. This gives child an important early start in human interaction.
Facilitates Proper Dental and Jaw Development
Suckling at the breast is good for baby's tooth and jaw development. Babies at the breast have to use as much as 60 times more energy to get food than do those drinking from a bottle.
As the babies' jaw muscles are strenuously exercised in suckling, their constant pulling encourages the growth of well-formed jaws and straight, healthy teeth.
Among breastfed infant, the longer the duration of nursing, the lower the incidents of malocclusion (faulty mouth and jaw development).
Many specialist report that they see fewer such problems in breastfed babies. In one survey of nearly 500 children with such problems, only 2 had been breastfed.

Breastfeeding - More Brainy

Breastfed Babies Have Higher IQs
- According to a University of Bristol paper published in Early Human Development in 1997, in 8 out of 10 population studies, and 3 studies of low birth weight infants, it has been consistently shown that children who have been breastfed are on average intellectually more able than bottle-fed children. The longer the child has been breastfed, the more pronounced the effect.
- Another study of nearly 400 children using several tests showed that the highest IQs (of 130 or higher) were obtained by children who had been breastfed for between 4 and 9 months.
- In another study of 771 low-birth weight infants, babies whose mothers chose to provide breast milk had an 8-point advantage in a mental development test over infants of mothers choosing not to do so.
- In Spain, a 1994 study of 229 breastfed and bottle-fed infants from birth to 2 years found lower mental development in the bottle-fed infants.
- In Britain, a 1995 follow-up study of children booked into antenatal clinics found further evidence of the association between breastfeeding and child intelligence - significantly higher mental development was seen in the breastfed children studied.
Breastfed Babies Have Better Language Development
A New Zealand study found that breastfed children have higher language development (as well as intelligence test) scores at ages 3, 5 and 7 than children who were not breastfed.
Better Educational Achievement
The latest study to support this statement was done in New Zealand in 1998. Here an 18-year study of over 1,000 children found that those who were breastfed as infants had both better intelligence and greater academic achievement that children who were infant-formula fed.
Better Reading Comprehension and Mathematical Ability
The above New Zealand study also found that increasing the duration of breastfeeding results in significant increase in reading comprehension and mathematical ability.

Breastfeeding - Makes your child more INTELLIGENT & HEALTHY

How to make your child more intelligent?
Want an intelligent, healthy child? There's a proven solution that lies beyond expensive books, computer lessons, tuition classes and IQ pills - mother's milk.
Breast milk is superior infant food. It contains at least 100 ingredients not found, and that cannot be replicated, in infant formula. And it has just the right amount of fatty acids, lactose, water, and amino acids for human digestion, brain development, and growth.
Breastfeeding will also give your child immunity from infection, less chance of obesity, less risk of dental decay and many other life-long health benefits.
More than two decades of research have established that breast milk is perfectly suited to nourish infants and protect them from illness. This is because about 80% of the cells in breast milk are cell that kill bacteria, fungi and viruses.
Breastfed babies thus have fewer illnesses. You save money (especially in today economy situation) not just on infant formula, but also on doctors' bills!
You may help save your child's life too. Human milk straight from the breast is always sterile, never contaminated by polluted water or dirty bottles, which can lead to potentially fatal diarrhoea in the infant.
That's not all.No babies are allergic to their mother's milk. In the contrast, some babies are allergic to cow's milk, and have to be prescribed 3 or 4 different formulas before an agreeable one is found. Allergic reactions to artificial food can be so severe that they threaten a baby's life.
Also, cow's milk contains a different type of protein which human infants can have difficulty digesting. (About half the protein in cow's milk passes through the baby's body as a waste product.) Human milk is easier to digest, so the baby energy is conserved for better growth - of his brain and body.... To be continued.

Benefits of using Baby Sling
Research shows that babies who are touched & cuddled frequently, cry & fuss less. Such content and alert babies show enhanced learning through contact and interaction with his caregiver. Our Baby Sling promote this style of parenting.
Following are some of the advantages of "wearing" your baby (from "The Baby Book" by William and Martha Sears):
- It's convenient. You can breastfeed discretely in a sling while working, getting things done around the house, shopping or eating in a restaurant. If you have a baby who wants to be held all the time, this is an easy way to meet her needs while doing other things.
- It helps moms care for older siblings. Carrying your baby in a sling can give you the mobility to care for your older children.
- It helps some babies to breastfeed better. Some babies, particularly those who are tense or tend to arch their backs, breastfeed better while moving. Also, babies who are slow to gain weight (for no apparent reason) have been known to gain better if carried in a sling for several hours a day, since proximity to mom encourages babies to eat more frequently.
- It reduces crying and colic. A 1986 study of 99 mother-infant pairs (reported in Pediatrics) showed that carrying babies at least three hours a day reduces crying and fussing 43% during the day and 51% at night. Babies are happier because they have less need to cry, and parents enjoy their babies more as a result.
- It enhances learning. Carried babies have enhanced visual and auditory alertness, and increased "quiet alertness" times. Carrying a baby promotes cognitive development and speech development, since babies are exposed to more experiences and conversations.
- Carried babies are involved in their parents' world. They participate in life, rather than see it as a spectator.
- Carrying your baby promotes bonding and enhances parents' feelings of competence. A higher frequency of feeding and touching stimulates mothering hormones, and frequent carrying encourages and speeds the development of a mutual reading of each other's cues.
